What is Immobilizer? Is it safe?

Nowadays, the immobilizer system has been used widely in the world and every car must have this. The immobilizer or smart-key system is an electronic security device designed for anti-theft and increasing the safety for the driver or owner in using the car.

How does it work?

The immobilizer system uses the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in communicating between the car and the key.

  1. Electronic Control Unit (ECU): The ECU is a central part of controlling all the systems of the engine.
  2. Transponder: The transponder or smart-key contains the RFID microchip which can operate without a battery.

When the driver inserts the key into the ignition switch to start, the immobilizer will system instantly operate. The ECU in the car will send the radio signal to the key, then the key will use this radio energy transforming to be its energy. After that, the key will send the signal back to the ECU to identify itself. The engine can start only if the code in the microchip inside the key matches with the code in the ECU in the car.

The immobilizer system is different in each car type and brand. So, Silicon Craft Technology (SIC) has developed an immobilizer and transponder that can be applied and widely used in the automotive industry. We have developed and distributed the transponder for more than 10 years with high efficiency and quality in the same as an international standard.
