Silicon Craft: Pioneering IC Design in Thailand

story of Silicon Craft Team

Who would believe that a microchip smaller than your fingernail could become the foundation of a world-class technology company?

The journey of Silicon Craft began with the determination of Mr. Manop Dhamsirianunt, an IC Design Specialist with over 10 years of experience from Silicon Valley. He made the decision to return to Thailand through the Reverse Brain Drain initiative. This program was designed to bring home the country’s best minds. It was a mission to build Thailand’s semiconductor industry from the ground up. Working closely with the Thailand IC Design Incubation program under NECTEC, one of Thailand’s most prominent research centers, Mr. Manop connected with leading researchers. He also collaborated with distinguished academics from top-tier universities across the country. Together, they exchanged knowledge in semiconductor technologies. Moreover, they discovered a shared vision for what Thailand could become.

In time, those who shared the same passion came together, including Dr. Naiyavudhi Wongkomet, Prof. Dr. Apinunt Thanachayanont, and Mr. Apinetr Unakul, the people who would become the company’s co-founders. They were united by a belief that Integrated Circuit design could generate enormous economic value for Thailand. As a result, they set out to prove what many at the time called impossible.

“We will design chips ourselves, right here in Thailand.”

In 2002, the company was founded with a clear mission: design, develop, and deliver microchips. Within just three years, the impossible became reality.

In 2005, Silicon Craft successfully developed an RFID microchip for Animal Identification, becoming the first company in Thailand and Southeast Asia to achieve this milestone. Afterward, the team expanded into Immobilizers, Industrial IoT, NFC, and Sensor interface technologies. And that was only the first chapter.

Today, Silicon Craft is trusted by customers across Europe, the United States, Japan, Korea, China, and India, proof that a small chip, and a bold idea, can change the world.
